Those considering moving to Alentejo have most likely considered Évora. It’s the most populated city in Alentejo and although a small city, it does have everything one might need. In fact, it’s becoming the fastest growing city in Alentejo. There is good bus transportation, but you can easily walk everywhere in Évora (perks of living in Alentejo).
One of the cheapest places to live in. True, there is not a lot going on in Beja (besides the nationally famous fair : Ovibeja!), but isn’t that what you’re running away from? Beja has the advantage of walkability and SPACE, if having a big farmhouse is what you are looking for. One big factor that many expats have in account is how close Beja is to the Alentejo Coast and the Algarve without the rent/buying prices of the saturated market.
